Poleng Mask Work
-
This workshop is designed for performing artists looking to find new energetic, physical, polysensorial and image-based pathways to tap into their imagination, presence and creative autonomy. These ideas have evolved out of the work of theatre director, master teacher and founder of The Bali Theatre Work Center, Per Brahe as well as his collaborator at the time Dr. Budi Miller, currently the Co-Artistic Director of The Theatre of Others. Poleng Mask Work is a component of Nusantara Theatric’s unique methodology PRISM Work. Using handcrafted wooden character masks alongside the acting techniques of Michael Chekhov, we connect the body & imagination to push our inspiration and character creation further. These masks allow one to embody new personas, reach deeper emotional truths, as well as unpack and reflect upon the multitude of one’s Self. Working with the same mask brings about new discoveries each time and repeated work with any mask will allow one to go deeper into their discovery of Self. The entire experience is durational in nature.
Note: Originally developed to train actors, the method has evolved to be accessible to anyone seeking creative liberation and awareness of one’s mind through the body. The central purpose of the work is to begin listening more intently to whatever sensations and impulses that arise within the body.
